Dinoplex Electronic Ignition Control Retrofit

Description

This is a replacement electronic ignition control unit for cars equipped with the Magnetti-Marelli Dinoplex AEC 103 A. Our Dinoplex replacement uses new, modern electronic internals packaged inside a excellent quality reproduction housing complete with original-style blue Magnetti Marelli label. As we sell these as complete units with a new housing, no core exchange is required. These are suitable for Dino 246 GT/GTS, as well as other Ferrari, Fiat and Lancia models originally equipped with an AEC 103 A Dinoplex system.

Our retrofit system includes an electronic IGBT ignition coil driver. This increases coil saturation, extends dwell and reduces points wear due to lower current flow across the points. This can also be deactivated, in which case the coil will be energized via the standard low voltage circuit through the distributor points. For improved heat dissipation, the electronic ignition unit is enclosed in an aluminum housing mounted securely inside the reproduction housing.

Installation

Installation requires splicing four wires into your original ignition system.  This unit can be used with either the original coil used for points operation (the “emergenza” coil) or an aftermarket performance coil. It should not be used with the original Marelli Dinoplex-type coil, although this coil can remain installed to keep the system’s original appearance.
